Overview of Strata

Where Strata Fits In

Kirix Strata is a specialty browser for working with data and the web.  Strata gives you the ability to connect to the vast resources on the web as well as your local data, and provides a rich environment for interacting with layers of information on many levels.

As a “data browser”, Strata is a handy tool for anyone who works with data:

  • For a research analyst, Strata makes it possible to gather data from across the web, and mash it together with local files and database systems
  • For a web developer, Strata provides the ability to browse and work with both the “data layer” and the “presentation layer” of a data-driven website at the same time
  • For a business analyst, Strata makes it easy to gather data from many systems, perform ad hoc calculations, and quickly put the results into a report

How It's Different

By bringing together the world of local data and the web, Strata provides several unique benefits:

1. Take your work “off road.”

Strata makes it possible to use data from the web or local sources in new, unanticipated ways.  When you access data from a website or a database, you can slice and dice it any way you want.  You can also take this data offline and keep working when access to the web is unavailable.

2. Tap into multiple data sources simultaneously.

Typically, separate web-based applications maintain their own isolated silos of data.   With Strata, you can create extensions that plug into the APIs for different websites and integrate information from across the web.  In addition, you can open local data files or connect with local database systems, and tap into all of these data sources at the same time.

3. Apply web resources to local data.

One of the obstacles to using data on the web is that many organizations are unwilling to load their confidential data into third-party web applications.  With Strata, you can download resources from the web, such as custom extensions and widgets, to help with your work.  Instead requiring data to be on the web, Strata can apply resources from the web to local data.
